Last month
we discussed shade trees in the landscape. If you missed last month’s
article you may want to visit the Article
of the Month Archives and review that discussion. This month’s
article is a continuation of last month’s discussion.
Understory trees serve as a midlevel canopy
between the dominant shade trees which frame the residence and the
shrub planting which enhance the residential setting (see October and November articles).
Bird watchers and other wildlife enthusiasts in particular seek to
develop midlevel canopies in their landscape.
